Subdural Haematoma in Nigerian Newborns

Abstract

Summary: Ten cases of subdural haematoma in the immediate neonatal period are reported. Precipitate and prolonged labour appeared to be important causative factors. Clinical features which should raise suspicion include convulsions, tense or bulging anterior fontanelle, apnoea and irritability. Early diagnosis and evacuation of the haematoma carry a good prognosis.
