Advances in gastrointestinal endoscopy: Shaping diagnosis and therapy of gastrointestinal disorders in children
Abstract
Abstract: In parallel to the growth of paediatric gastroenterology sub-speciality, gastrointestinal disorders requiring endoscopy for diagnosis or therapy have shown a rising incidence globally. With the development of fibre-optic endoscope, gastrointestinal endoscopy has become a revolutionary diagnostic as well as therapeutic tool. Generally, endoscopy has shown superiority in terms of diagnostic yield over earlier methods of diagnosing common as well as rare gastrointestinal disorders. This review sought to review the recent advances in gastrointestinal endoscopy modalities which have led to the explosion in its use for diagnosis and therapy of different gastrointestinal disorders in children.
