Complications of Acute Glomerulonephritis in Children in Port Harcourt
Abstract
Abstract Background: The incidence of scule glomeruloneplaritis (AGN) is iodalinc in developed countries and usually runs an complications. To class study we aim to determine the cutore complications and outcome of childhood AG in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
Patients and Methods: A prospective study of children with acute glomerulonephritis (AGN) aurulled to the children's wador Emergency ward of the dearment of Paediatrics, Triversity of Text Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UITH) from June 2006 to June 2007, was carried out. The complications, investigations, treatment (conservative with or without dialysis) and outcome were document and analyzed
Results: The 31 patients with AGN1epresenter 38.5 percent of the 81 renal cases (excluding urinary tract infection) seer during the study period. They consisted of 16 (51.6 percent) males and 15 (18.4 percent) females, and were aged 3-16 years with a mean age of 3+ 4.2 years. Conclusion: Most cases of acute glomerulonephritis in this study the complications, with morality mainly from hypertensive encephalopulliy and uraccia.
