Ethics of Publication

When reporting studies on human beings, indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional or regional) and with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 2000 (available at http://www.wma.net/e/policy/17-c_e.html). A statement affirming this compliance must be clearly made in the manuscript, specifically under methodology.

The journal will not consider any paper based on research which is ethically unacceptable. For prospective studies involving human participants, authors are expected to clearly indicate institutional ethical approval (provided by a regional/national/ institutional or independent Ethics Committee) with proof such as approval certificate number. A clear statement on informed consent or assent, as indicated, must be provided. For case reports or other manuscript types which will include images, it is the responsibility of the author(s) to ensure that any form of identity on the image(s) is(are) concealed. Where it is not helpful to conceal such information due to the context of the research, the permission of the patient or relations of the patient must be obtained before using such identity-revealing images. There must be a clear statement on obtaining a formal permission to use such data and information. Manuscripts without clear compliance with these ethical principles will be rejected outright.
