Abstract

Summary: A review of 133 children with Burkitt's lymphoma admitted to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, during a ten-year period has revealed a preponde rance of males over females and a peak age incidence of seven years. The main sites affected initially by the tumour in order of frequency were the abdomen, the face and the spinal column. The spleen, the lungs and the peripheral lymph nodes were found to be more frequently involved than has been reported in the literature. It is postulated that an interaction between malarial and EB virus infections and malnutrition are important factors in the aetiology of the tumour.
