Intussusception in Childhood at Ilorin
Abstract
Summary: Forty-three children who were diagnosed as having intussusception between January 1982 and December 1986 at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hos pital, were studied. This represents 0.1% of all paediatric admissions. There were 29 males and 14 females, a male:female ratio of 2.1:1. Thirty three (77%) cases were below the age of 1 year. Ileocaecal (56%) and ileocolic (42%) were the commonest types seen in all age groups. Mortality was 49%. Early presentation and good management will reduce the morbidity and mortality from childhood intussusception
